10 REASONS WHY EVERY CHILD SHOULD LEARN MARTIAL ARTS.
At Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo, we don't just teach people how to kick and punch. We believe the key to being happy is having a strong mind and body so we train to not only improve your child's general health but also to teach each individual positive character traits they can put into their everyday days to become better people. We want to be, alongside parents, another positive role model in your child's life. Here are some of the benefits your child can get from training with us:
1: IMPROVE CONFIDENCE
High self esteem and confidence building is a huge thing in anyone's life. If you are confident you are not scared to make decisions and live life to the full. We consistently try and build students confidence both verbally and by allowing them to grade and enter competitions. We reinforce that confidence comes from high work and testing yourself. It's amazing to see people go from zero confidence to happy enthusiastic people. Under good instruction confidence will shine.
2: PROMOTE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
It's important for children to be active. Research shows that kids that are active are more likely to become active adults and think about their health. We promote health and well being as this is the most important thing in the World and should never be underestimated.
3: LEARN TO DEFEND YOURSELF
Everyone should learn the basics of self defence. You never know when your skills could save your life or a life of a loved one. Learning martial arts improves awareness of your surroundings and gives you more chance than most of defending yourself physically and mentality from an attack.
4: FOCUS & IMPROVED SCHOOL WORK
Practising martial arts teaches you to focus and concentrate. Parents whose children sometimes struggle to pay attention at school, always comment that since training in martial arts their school work has improved dramatically.
5: DISCIPLINE & RESPECT
These valuable principles can seriously be lacking in some areas of today's society. Children must learn to listen, behave and respect everyone in the Dojang if they are going to progress. These two characteristics are fundamental in being a nice person and we strive to in still them.
6: RESPECTING OTHER PEOPLE'S BELIEFS
Taekwondo is a universal language. People from all backgrounds of religion, race, colour, ability, age and gender are thrown together through their love of training. Students learn not to put others in boxes and meet a variety of people. They learn to accept people and to embrace differences not snub them.
7: SELF CONTROL
Students learn not to react to emotions. They practise self control in the Dojang and then it's their job to practise it in their everyday life. Staying calm and controlled can be very difficult especially in trying times but this is something as martial artists we all need to practise and learn.
8: LEARN TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
That sense of belonging is very important. When you train you build a very close relationship with your Instructor and your peers. This relationship can become one of the most trusted ones you ever have. Children learn over time to trust and to have a sense of belonging to the club. This can last a lifetime and help them through difficult times in their life.
9: ANTI BULLYING
A large majority of children who start training do so because they are victims of bullying. Bullying in society will never stop. There will always be degrees of bullying. Not only do we try and teach defence against any possible physical encounters but we also teach coping mechanisms and how to deal with bullying circumstances. It also gives your child someone to talk to if they need to. Previous students who were once victims of bullying are now happy, confident children who have learnt how to deal with these minority of people. As a club we also do anti-bullying lessons.
10: HARD WORK ETHIC & INDOMNITABLE SPIRIT
Students all learn to work hard and appreciate both people and property. They learn if they want to succeed they must put the time and effort in. Importantly they learn if it all goes wrong in the process to try again and never give up.
